In an effort to combat fraud in the credit card payment industry, the major card brands came together to align their individual security standards by forming the PCI-SSC (Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council) and in December 2004 released the first PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard). A merchant who accepts even one credit card transaction must comply with the standard.
This white paper discusses the PCI-DSS requirements from the perspective of a company running an SAP® systems environment and focuses on the aspects related to an SAP landscape (and not to the overall security considerations of the company). This paper will also discuss methods to help you keep your SAP system out of the scope of any potential PCI-DSS compliance audit and should be considered important reading for any merchant in the SAP worldwide community.
